Hand-Spun Mountain Wool

natural undyed, 100g skein

Spun by hand on a drop spindle in the Svaneti and Tusheti regions. Irregular twist, natural colour variation from cream to brown-grey. Each skein is different. Used for weaving, knitting, or as material specimens.

Sourcing area

Spun by hand in the Svaneti and Tusheti highland regions of the Greater Caucasus.

Minimum order

1 skein (100g).

Lead time

Skeins are made to order from existing stock. Allow 2–4 weeks for spinning and dispatch. Each spinner produces a limited quantity per season.

Quality variability

Twist rate and diameter vary along the length of each skein — this is inherent to hand-spinning and not a defect. Colour varies from cream to brown-grey depending on the individual fleece. No two skeins are identical.

Storage / shelf life

Indefinite. Store in a breathable container, away from direct light. Cedar blocks recommended to deter moths.

Packaging

Tied skein, wrapped in tissue. Includes a card indicating the region of origin.

Import restrictions

Processed wool yarn is generally unrestricted. Verify with your national biosecurity authority if in doubt.

Notes

The irregular twist is a feature, not a flaw. Hand-spun yarns have variable tensile strength along the length — account for this in structural applications.
