From Caucasus

Papakha Hat

Karakul lambskin, S / M / L

The traditional hat of the Caucasus, worn across Georgia, Azerbaijan, and the North Caucasus for centuries. Made from Karakul lambskin with a fitted inner band. Dense, warm, and water-resistant. Specify size when ordering — no bespoke adjustment needed.

Sourcing area

Made from Karakul lambskin with an inner band cut and stitched by craftsmen in Tbilisi. Karakul is sourced from highland flocks in eastern Georgia and Azerbaijan.

Minimum order

1 hat.

Lead time

In-stock sizes (S/M/L) ship within 7 business days. Confirm size before ordering.

Quality variability

Karakul lambskin varies in curl density and colour from pale grey to near-black. All hats are made from the same grade of skin but the surface pattern differs slightly per piece.

Storage / shelf life

Indefinite with correct storage. Store on a hat block or stuffed with tissue. Keep away from moisture. Karakul is naturally water-resistant but not waterproof.

Packaging

Hat box with tissue. Includes a sizing note.

Import restrictions

Karakul lambskin is legally sourced and commercially traded. Not subject to CITES restrictions for domestic sheep. Some countries may require documentation for fur imports.

Notes

Sizing: S = 54–55cm head circumference, M = 56–57cm, L = 58–59cm. Measure above the ears for the most accurate fit. The inner band breaks in and conforms to the head over the first few wears.
