From Caucasus

Harvested August

Zanduri Emmer Wheat

50g packet, planting stock

Ancient hulled wheat variety grown in the high-altitude villages of Racha and Svaneti for millennia. Lower yield than modern wheat but exceptional flavour and drought tolerance. One of the last remaining Georgian heritage grain varieties in active cultivation.

Sourcing area

High-altitude village plots in the Racha and Svaneti regions of the Greater Caucasus — grown above 1,400m where emmer has been continuously cultivated for millennia.

Minimum order

1 packet (50g).

Lead time

Harvested August, dispatched from September onward. Stock is limited — contact early in the season.

Harvest variability

Mountain grain yields are low and variable. Poor growing seasons significantly reduce available planting stock. This is not a commercial crop — supply is not guaranteed year to year.

Quality variability

Grain size consistent for emmer. Hulled — requires dehulling before milling. Germination expected at 70–85% for current season seed.

Storage / shelf life

Store in a cool, dry, airtight container. Planting viability up to 18 months. Milling quality remains for 12 months.

Packaging

50g heat-sealed foil packet with paper outer. Includes basic growing notes.

Import restrictions

Grain seed is subject to phytosanitary inspection at destination. Import permits may be required in some countries.

Notes

Emmer is a hulled wheat — the grain does not thresh free of the hull automatically. Dehulling before milling is required. Lower output than modern wheat is expected.
